Jiji Kenya has launched a game-changing campaign called “Cash it on Jiji,” aimed at transforming the second-hand economy in the country.

Through this initiative, Jiji provides individuals with a golden opportunity to monetize idle items and earn up to KSh 30,000.

During the giveaway period, Jiji Kenya awarded a staggering total of 48 winners with cash prizes and merchandise, each valued up to KSh 30,000.

This campaign attracted a massive influx of new sellers from all corners of Kenya, resulting in an impressive surge in product listings. Jiji’s remarkable success serves as a testament to the power of ambition and the right opportunities coming together.

The second-hand economy in Kenya has witnessed exponential growth, as reflected by data from the United Nations (UNComtrade). From 2005 to 2022, used items in Kenya experienced a surge of over 500%, reaching a market value of $172 million.

This eye-opening statistic indicates the significant expansion of the second-hand economy.

Lynn Peters, the final winner of the “Cash it on Jiji” campaign, expressed her gratitude, stating, “This prize money has come at the perfect time for me. After leaving my job, I was uncertain about my next steps. With the KSh 30,000, I can now purchase more products and leverage the Jiji platform to sell them effectively.”

Jiji’s campaign holds particular significance in Kenya, where the majority of the working population (almost 84%) are employed in the informal sector, according to Kenya’s Country Report, 2022.

Jiji’s initiative empowers individuals to start selling without the need for a physical shop or going through the cumbersome process of formal registration, making it accessible to aspiring entrepreneurs across the country.

Andrew Annyke, who won a cash prize of KSh 20,000, joyfully shared his excitement, stating, “Winning this money has inspired me to pursue my dreams. I’ve been buying furniture from artisans and reselling them on Jiji. With this cash prize, I’m now motivated to take the next step and start my own business, buying materials like fabric and timber.”

With its unwavering commitment to connect businesses and individuals, Jiji Kenya continues to facilitate their growth and success.

By encouraging the selling of unused items, Jiji not only helps individuals earn money but also supports those in need by offering essential products at affordable prices. Jiji believes that every unused item holds value and can positively impact someone’s life.

Maksym Golubev, the Regional Manager of Jiji East Africa, expressed his heartfelt appreciation to all Jiji users, stating, “We are tremendously grateful to our Jiji users.

Together, we can bring about significant change in our reality. Kenyans deserve a high standard of living, and by simply posting your unused items on Jiji, you can make a difference in someone else’s life.”
