MediaTek, a leading fabless semiconductor company powering nearly 2 billion connected devices annually, has reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with telecom operators and OEMs in Kenya and the broader East Africa region to accelerate the adoption of 5G and bridge the digital gap in the area.
These efforts were emphasized during Kenya’s inaugural MediaTek Technology Diaries, held in December 2023.
The MediaTek Technology Diaries serves as an interactive and informative series aimed at demystifying the latest technologies reshaping our daily lives.
This initiative aligns with MediaTek’s ethos of democratizing cutting-edge technology to facilitate seamless connections with the elements shaping our daily routines, ultimately enhancing, enriching, and empowering individuals to lead smarter and healthier lives.
Powering some of the world’s most prominent brands, MediaTek remains dedicated to delivering state-of-the-art innovation through its latest products and solutions spanning smartphones, smart devices, automotive, satellite connectivity solutions, and next-generation wearables, among others.
MediaTek has identified the enhancement of 5G adoption in East Africa as a strategic priority for the upcoming year.
Rami Osman, Director for Business Development at MediaTek Middle East and Africa, emphasized the significance of 5G mobile and Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) in expanding high-speed internet connectivity across Africa.
Osman stated, “With fixed-line broadband penetration at only 2% across Africa, 5G mobile and Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) has a key role to play in bringing the benefits of high-speed internet connectivity to more people. We are working with OEMs and network providers to bring the educational, entertainment, business, and lifestyle benefits of fast broadband to a much wider population in Africa.”
In light of the anticipated surge in broadband demands in sub-Saharan Africa, particularly with the emergence of augmented reality and virtual reality applications, closer collaboration among various stakeholders is imperative to enhance broadband infrastructure and fully unlock the potential of 5G.
MediaTek is at the forefront of providing cutting-edge platforms to power next-generation experiences and devices. The MediaTek T750 and MediaTek T830 enable operators to develop dedicated 5G FWA consumer premises equipment (CPE). These fully-featured systems-on-chip (SoCs) empower OEMs and operators to build highly efficient multi-gigabit CPE products.
As a global fabless semiconductor company, MediaTek plays a pivotal role in enabling nearly 2 billion connected devices annually. The company is a market leader in developing innovative systems-on-chip (SoC) for mobile, home entertainment, connectivity, and IoT products.
MediaTek’s steadfast commitment to innovation has solidified its position as a driving force in several key technology domains, including highly power-efficient mobile technologies, automotive solutions, and an extensive array of advanced multimedia products such as smartphones, tablets, digital televisions, 5G, Voice Assistant Devices (VAD), and wearables.
