Safaricom Partners with EABL and Vivo to Bring The Bar and Shell Apps to M-PESA Super App

Safaricom (NSE: SCOM), East African Breweries PLC, and Vivo have partnered to bring The Bar and Shell apps to the M-PESA Super App.

This collaboration aims to expand the range of services available on the platform and provide added convenience to its growing user base.

The Bar app, developed by EABL, will allow M-PESA customers to conveniently shop for drinks with the added benefit of free delivery. Furthermore, customers will have the option to book a bar setup for parties and make payments directly through the M-PESA App.

Vivo, on the other hand, will introduce a loyalty app for customers who fuel at Shell outlets. The app will automatically be linked to their M-PESA accounts, enabling users to accumulate points each time they make a fuel purchase and payment through M-PESA. These earned points can later be redeemed for select items and services at Shell outlets.

Peter Ndegwa, CEO of Safaricom, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with East African Breweries and Vivo, stating that The Bar and Shell apps will provide the more than 3 million customers on the app with the increased convenience of shopping online coupled with free deliveries and more value when fuelling at Shell outlets.

These partnerships are part of our goal to enable our customers to do more through the M-PESA Super App by connecting them digitally to the different businesses and services on our platform.”

The introduction of The Bar and Shell apps will join the ranks of over 60 other businesses and government parastatals that offer their services through the M-PESA Super App. Safaricom provides essential support in terms of hosting, distribution, and marketing to these businesses, ensuring a seamless experience for app users.

The M-PESA Super App continues to witness rapid growth in its user base, now serving over 3 million customers, a significant increase from 1.2 million just a few months ago in April 2023.

In the last financial year, spanning up to April 2023, the Super App recorded an impressive 489 million transactions worth KSh. 1.3 trillion. This growth trajectory indicates the platform’s increasing popularity and its vital role in facilitating digital transactions within the region.

The rollout of The Bar and Shell apps is scheduled for the upcoming weeks, further enhancing the M-PESA Super App’s offerings and solidifying its status as a comprehensive digital platform catering to the evolving needs of its users.
