Telegram has announced that the messaging platform will soon be rolling out Stories, a feature reminiscent of Snapchat, WhatsApp, and Instagram.

This feature allows users to share photos and videos that automatically disappear after 24 hours.

According to CEO Pavel Durov, the implementation of Stories has been one of the most requested features from Telegram users. However, initially, the platform was hesitant due to the abundance of Stories across various social media platforms. Nevertheless, after careful consideration, Telegram has decided to provide its users with this popular feature.

Telegram Stories will include customizable privacy settings, allowing users to control who can view their stories. Options include making stories visible to everyone, only to contacts, contacts with exceptions, select individuals, or a list of close friends.

Furthermore, Telegram’s dual camera support will enable users to simultaneously capture photos and videos using both the front and rear cameras.

One unique aspect of Telegram Stories, differentiating it from WhatsApp Statuses and Instagram Stories, is the ability to choose the duration for which a story remains visible – 6, 12, 24, or 48 hours – or even permanently display stories on one’s profile page, all with individual privacy controls.

Durov also mentioned that once they introduce the ability to repost messages from channels to stories, it will become easier for content to go viral on Telegram.

“After testing Stories internally, even the skeptics on our team started appreciating this feature. It has become such an integral part of Telegram that we can no longer imagine the platform without it,” added Durov.
