Vodacom Group has clinched the top spot as the continent’s premier employer, according to the prestigious Top Employers Institute.

The accolade extends to Vodacom South Africa and Vodacom Mozambique, which have also been recognized for their outstanding HR policies.

Annually, the Top Employers Institute acknowledges organizations that prioritize their workforce by implementing exceptional Human Resource (HR) practices.

The certification process involves a thorough evaluation of HR policies through the HR Best Practices Survey, which encompasses six HR domains and 20 topics, including People Strategy, Work Environment, Talent Acquisition, Learning, Diversity & Inclusion, and Wellbeing.

While Vodacom Group has consistently been listed as a Top Employer for seven consecutive years (2017-2023), this marks the first time the company has secured the top position as the overall Top Employer on the continent.

Shameel Joosub, CEO of Vodacom Group, expressed his pride, stating that their primary goal is to connect for a better future.

“Our employees embody the ‘Spirit of Vodacom’ through various initiatives that ensure engagement, boost morale, and foster a progressive and effective organizational culture.”

In recent years, Vodacom Group has implemented the Spirit Beat survey to gauge employee resonance with the ‘Spirit of Vodacom’ and identify areas for improvement.

The company has also enhanced its Employee Value Proposition (EVP) to create conducive working conditions where employees can thrive and make a meaningful impact on the continent.

Anchored by four pillars—opportunity, innovation, people, and impact—the EVP fosters a purpose-driven, technology-oriented environment that attracts top talent.

Matimba Mbungela, Vodacom Group’s Chief Officer for Human Resources, emphasized the significance of this achievement, attributing it to the collaborative efforts of stakeholders across the organization.

“Achieving such a significant milestone, especially when competing against a formidable list of top employers on the continent, is a testament to the transformation of our HR practices across our markets. Teamwork and collaboration have been instrumental in reaching this latest milestone,” Mbungela remarked.

With a market reach exceeding 500 million people, Vodacom Group operates in South Africa, Tanzania, the DRC, Mozambique, Lesotho, Egypt, and through partnerships with Safaricom Kenya and Safaricom Ethiopia.

The Top Employer certification has also been awarded to Vodacom Lesotho, Vodacom DRC, Vodacom Tanzania, Safaricom Kenya, and Safaricom Ethiopia.
